Bonnet House is situated near one of South Florida’s most beautiful and historical homes. The land on which Bonnet house is located and surrounding is part of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation. When the home was donated to the Florida Trust in 1983 it was the largest charitable donation in the state.
A tour of the home is a trip back in time to a way life that was lived many decades ago when South Florida was considered the Gold Coast. Bonnet House was built by settler Hugh Taylor Birch’s daughter and her husband, Frederic Clay Bartlett, in 1920 on land given to them by Birch. The home was originally built as a winter retreat. Through many family tragedies and successes the décor and design of the house has undergone change. Today, visitors can tour this decorator showcase and experience a slice of life in Florida history.
