As long as you know the score in Sourh Beach, you won't be surprised by the additional charges at The Breakwater. It reminded us a bit of the Disney experience--a foreign country with a bad exchange rate. But every restaurant and hotel is the same that way. Two appetizers and two drinks will run you $120 at the restaurant. The rooms are small but hip, and well outfitted. Bathrooms are tasteful and the deco decor is generally pleasing. The rooftop pool is a joke. If you saw the movie "The Big Bus" in the eighties, you have the picture. The scale is so small as to be almost silly. The staff was on it and seemed inclined to meet our needs. The elevators were temperamental, and there was no access to the stairs going up...only down. So if you are a skittish elevator patron, as I am, that can be trying...Would I stay here again. Hmmmm...maybe.
Services at Hotel Breakwater are of 4-star level. You are sure to find a room of your liking, as there is a vast selection available. Not only Ocean Drive, but also Casa Casuarina and Old City Hall, are a pleasant walk's distance from here. If you plan on visiting Flamingo Park, this hotel is a good choice. During your stay in Miami Beach, a visit to either Wolfsonian-FIU or Bass Museum of Art is more than worth it. It's reassuring to know that Miami Beach Convention Centre is easily accessible.
