Maurice Gibb Park was renamed for the late Maurice Gibb, a member of the musical group The Bee Gees. Gibb and his brother Barry and fraternal twin Robin made music around the world for forty years. The park, once named Island View Park, was important to Maurice Gibb. He came here in between recording sessions to think, meditate, and relax. Most of the people who knew Maurice also knew about his love for this park. After his death on January 12, 2003, the city of Miami Beach spent $75,000 renovating the park in 2004 after it was agreed to rename it Maurice Gibb Park.
The park is a pretty little bayside area, only 3.43 acres, and situated right on Biscayne Bay. There are only two parks in all of Miami Beach that are situated on the bay, and Maurice Gibb Park is one of them. Boating fans will appreciate the boat ramps, and visitors of all ages will find the southern edge of the park lots of fun. There are activities here for kids, such as different types of swings. For adults, you will find body-building equipment.
