Be certain to visit the Frank Buck Zoo while in Gainesville. The zoo is fairly small but hosts an impressive collection. It was named for wild animal hunter Frank Buck, who was born in Gainesville. The Morton Museum is also worth a visit, as it chronicles the history of this part of Texas. If you’re in Gainesville during the summer, be sure to see a play at the Butterfield Stage Playhouse, a small theater that houses a very good amateur repertory company. When you’re ready for the big city, make the drive to Dallas, where you’ll find the Dallas Museum District, home to many museums, including the Dallas Museum of Art. Have dinner in the famous West End District, home to some of the best restaurants and bars in Dallas.
