Chicago’s Midway International Airport is about ten miles from downtown, and many travelers prefer it to super-busy O’Hare, which is twenty miles from downtown. A cab ride from Midway to Chicago’s city center is about twenty-five dollars, but unless you have a lot of luggage, take the public transit. It is a bit of a long walk to the train station, but the train is fast and cheap. Besides, a trip on the El, Chicago’s famous elevated train, is a must for every visitor. Midway is on the Orange Line, and the trip takes twenty to thirty minutes.
Chicago Midway International is a new airport, and is still growing. Its main building, called New Terminal, has three concourses. Here you will find almost all of the airport’s services and amenities, including Airport Police and Traveler’s Aid. Keep in mind that since the tragedies of 9/11, 2001, airport security is tight. Familiarize yourself with all the rules before you go to the airport. It will save you a lot of time and frustration. There is accommodation in every price range, from high-end to budget hotels, near Chicago Midway International Airport.
