Many people are surprised to learn that Chicago has many miles of sandy beaches along the Lake Michigan shore, and that in summer the water warms up enough to allow swimming and water sports. If you are a Chicago resident, or if you are staying in any of the discount hotels or budget hotels near Foster Street Beach in Chicago, or any of the Windy City’s other great beaches, you’ll find that all the sun and fun you want are easily available.
Foster Street Beach is a man-made beach that resulted from the landfill that created Lincoln Park. It is not one of Chicago’s most frequently traveled beaches. Therefore, because it is somewhat off the beaten path, it’s a great place for a family outing. There is lots of sand and water for the kids, and you might not have to spend as much time looking for a spot as on some of the more heavily used beaches. There are basketball and tennis courts. You can also play volleyball or rent bikes. Foster Street Beach has a lifeguard and washrooms, but no showers or change rooms. There is parking nearby, and a concession stand where you can buy snacks and drinks.
