The southern shore of Lake Michigan is lined with sandy beaches, from Wisconsin and the northern suburbs of Chicago, down into Indiana. This has earned Chicago the nickname “Miami of the Midwest”; at least, during the summer months. Residents of the city and visitors alike can swim, sunbathe and play water sports just minutes away from the bustle of one of the largest cities in the United States. Pratt Beach, which is located in the Rogers Park neighborhood just to the south of Loyola Park, where Pratt Boulevard reaches Lake Michigan, is one of those popular beaches.
Named for popular civil servants George and Paul Pratt, this beach is maintained by Chicago’s Department of Parks and Recreation. It has been serving the summer recreational needs of local residents since the 1930's, and continues to be a favorite warm weather destination.
