Hotels near Union Station in Chicago - Best deals & budget rates!

The site of the Chicago Union Station at 222 S. Canal Street has been occupied by a train station since 1881. The resent station opened in 1925, and is a tribute to the grand old days of train travel and magnificent train stations. It is, in fact, the last remaining building of Chicago’s legendary early twentieth century stations. With its giant Roman columns, glaring statues, bronze torches and marble floors, the five-story-high Great Hall is simply breathtaking. It is a must-see for every visitor interested in iconic Chicago architecture. This spectacular hall has been used as a setting for movies like The Untouchables, Flags of our Fathers, and My Best Friend’s Wedding. The famous Union Gallery opens onto the Great Hall, and this 3,500 square foot room is perfect for ceremonies, receptions and business meetings.

While it is not the key rail hub it once was, Union Station is still a busy and important station, serving Amtrak and METRA. There are some good eating places here, whether you want fast food or regular dining. There are also preferred vendors in the station if you’d like to do some browsing and shopping.
