 "First time visitor. Will there be a second?"
Having grown up in the Boston area, the Ritz Carlton was the place to see and be seen. But, I never set foot inside until I moved 1250 miles away and returned for my daughter's grad school graduation. This was now the Taj and I was skeptical about the change. I was right to be guarded. Upon arrival (Sat.), it was chaos. The elevators were not working but the management decided not to tell anyone. Weddings were going on; people in for various graduations all over town; and the staff acted indifferent. No one to offer to take our bags up to the room or store until elevators repaired.After checking in, we went to the room overlooking the Commons. The room was delightful. A trip to the bar before heading out to dinner was exceptional - top service but this is not a place to go into and drink heavily - at least without bringing some gold coins. Pricey. Returned to the bar later for its cupcake dessert bar - trendy and good. Next morning took six people to the brunch on the roof. Very nice buffet, but not the best i've been to by any stretch. Waiter said he could not take a group picture of us. WTF? Claimed he would be fired. Management should fire anyone who refuses such a request, IMO. Used the workout area. Adequate machines with top service. How many times have you been offered a towel while on a treadmill? Finally, had an opportunity to also have breakfast at the Cafe. Good selection and variety. Bring some coin. You are paying for convenience and comfort - any doubt, go have the same meal at the Paramount. Cheaper, but at least you avoid the prison mess hall experience offered at that Beacon Hill eatery. I wish they offered a choice of newspapers delivered to your door in the AM. I would have preferred the Globe to the WSJ or NYT. Give the people an option.Seemed understaffed at times in terms of bellmen. As opposed to four people hovering over the person at the concierge asking about the swan boats.in the end, I did like the hotel better than some of the bigger chains in town or even the smaller older ones. But for the price, I think I will try somewhere new next time.

 "Convenient upscale hotel"
The Taj Boston is very conveniently located in the heart of downtown Boston. It is across the street from the Boston Commons and close to many other attractions and restaurants. Beforewarned, however, that the Taj Boston is an upscale hotel that charges for many extras, including wifi access.
