John Hancock Tower Details

The John Hancock Tower, known as Hancock Place by local Bostonians, is a modern 60 story skyscraper in the middle of Bostons stately Back Bay. The tower was designed by world renowned architects I. M. Pei and Henry N. Cobb and is the tallest building in the city, eclipsing the Prudential Tower.A ground view is an excellent place to start your tour of this architectural wonder. The tower is now seen as a masterpiece but has been surrounded in controversy. Local citizens did not want the tall steel and glass structure in the staid Back Bay area and once built it experienced structural problems. One of the most severe was motion sickness experienced by workers on the upper floors. As soon as the cause was determined stabilizers were put in place and the problem was solved. Even though the observation deck has been closed since the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, the John Hancock Tower is a must see for anyone visiting Boston.
