Minnesota became the 32nd state of the United States in 1858 and is famous for being “the land of 10,000 lakes”. Around 60% of the state’s population lives in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area known as the Twin Cities, which is known internationally for its vibrant arts community. The Guthrie Center has an extensive program of theater, dance and comedy. The Walker Arts Center houses contemporary art and is considered one of the “big five” modern art museums in the United States. In the summer months, the state’s many lakes in the north of the state draw visitors to enjoy a variety of water sports and outdoor recreation. Some of the best lakes are the Brainerd Lakes Area and the great fishing area of Lake Vermillion. In winter visitors can go ice-fishing, snow shoeing and snow mobile riding around the lakes.
One of Minnesota’s most popular museums is the Science Museum of Minnesota, which has some fascinating displays, which include a triceratops and an Egyptian mummy. For romantic getaways, outdoors vacations or family holidays, the state of Minnesota has a lot to offer the tourist. As well as tourist attractions Missouri has several big events each year such as the Minnesota State Fair, the Minnesota Folk Festival and Polar Fest. Minnesota is also a great place for a driving holiday and the 154 mile stretch of road called the North Shore Scenic Route along Lake Superior is a great place to start.
