New Mexico lies in the southwestern part of the United States. It has a colorful history, having previously been part of Mexico, and it still has a high percentage of Hispanic Americans, some of whom are descended from the Spanish colonists. It also has a high number of Native Americans from the tribes of Navajo and Pueblo. To the south, the Mexican states of Chihuahua and Sonora border New Mexico, with Texas and Oklahoma covering the remainder. The capital city of New Mexico is Santa Fe, and the largest city is Albuquerque. This huge state covers 121,665 square miles and has an estimated 1,969,915 inhabitants, according to the 2007 census. With an average of just 15 inhabitants per square mile, New Mexico is one of the most sparsely inhabited states in the US.

It has a huge range of elevations from Red Bluff reservoir, at 2,842 feet, up to Wheeler Peak at 13,161 feet above sea level. New Mexico is in the Mountain Time zone of the United States. As the territory is mostly desert and mountain, the climate is highly arid. It has very little water and only receives around 15 inches of rainfall per year. New Mexico has a number of National forests to protect the millions of acres. They include Carson National Forest, Cibola National Forest and Santa Fe, amongst others. Visitors enjoy the Aztec Ruins National monument at Aztec, the Carlsbad Caverns National Park and the Petroglyphs near Albuquerque. Significant income is brought to the state by tourism, and visitors can arrange hotel bookings and room hire throughout New Mexico here at EasyToBook.com.
