The town of New Windsor is in Orange County, New York. It is located in the Hudson River Valley, and was founded in the early 18th century. History lovers staying in budget hotels in New Windsor will find that they are in the heart of Revolutionary War country, where much of the action took place. The New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site occupies the location where George Washington camped his army and had his headquarters. There were over 700 log huts housing 6000 to 8000 men. One hut that is still standing is believed to date back to Washington’s time. Visitors can also see Knox’s headquarters, a 1754 stone house

and the 1755 Edmonston stone house. Nearby is Machin’s Battery, which failed to stop the British advance up the Hudson Valley. Moodna Creek (also called Murderer’s Creek) is the site of a legendary massacre. Interesting landmarks include Plum Point, Rock Tavern, and Vails Gate.
