Astroland Amusement Park is the largest amusement in New York City. It's open from April 9 to mid-October each year. During the spring and fall it's open only on the weekends and during the summer it's open every day. The park is best known for its wild roller coaster ride called “The Cyclone.” The Cyclone is a 2,640-foot compact wooden twister with 12 drops, 16 changes of direction, six 180-degree turns, 18 track crossovers and 27 changes in elevation. It travels 60 mph, which means the total ride lasts one minute and fifty seconds. Twenty-four passengers can ride The Cyclone in each cycle.
Other rides available for adults or older children are: Power Surge, Top Spin Thrill Ride, Water Flume, Pirate Ship, Scrambler, Bumper Cars, Dante's Inferno, Break Dancer, Astrotower, Tilt-a-Whirl. Rides for younger children include: Pirate Jet, Tea Cups, Froghopper, Motorcycle Jump, Super Swing, Himalaya, Fire Engines, Big Apple Coaster, Mini Trucks, Convoy, Popeye Boats, Circuit 2000, Carousel and Dune Buggy. Jump Astroland Amusement Park also has what they call “10 games of skill,” 10 arcades and two restaurants. One restaurant is on the boardwalk and the other is on Surf Avenue. Groups of 15 or more can get a discount if tickets are reserved in advance.
