From JFK Airport: Take the free quick and easy Airtrain to 'Jamaica Station' on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). From 'Jamaica Station', take the blue subway line E and get off at '7th Avenue'. Cons: Room very small - too small for two people
Cons: There was something going on with the water pressure in the pipes. it built up in sound then went bang every couple of hours.

the bed was very comfortable, the fresh towels came every day (and were soft) and there were no insects (that’s right: no bedbugs to complain about here). the cleaning staff and desk personnel spoke english and other languages, were polite, helpful and wore neat uniforms. as world travellers (my wife and i have visited 66 countries and have stayed in over 300 hotels worldwide), this hotel was unexpectedly comfortable and quiet. it’s on manhattan’s upper west side, off broadway, near the no.1 subway line, two blocks from central park, and is surrounded by some of new york’s best restaurants and dinners. neighbourhood breakfasts range between $4.50 and, for the novelty of being a big spender, $24.00 for a meal of juice, coffee/tea, pancakes, eggs, bacon or sausage. same meal, different places and prices, but you chose when you want to be the “big spender”. and yes, the best point of all is the price -- excellent for what you get. we plan to go back and stay there again.
Cons: My room was next to the door of the elevator, so a bit noisy (but luckily had my earplugs with me)
Cons: On arrival reception staff argued that we had not booked two rooms for five days but one room for four days after checking the paper work it was sorted out but without any apologies from them - it wasn't what was needed after a long journey!!
