 "great location."
The hotel rooms and corridors are a little tired and neglected,I have stayed here 5times now and each time its getting more worn looking. checking in and out is a nightmare, especially if you want to leave ur luggage, there should be a seperate area for this ,not at reception.

 "Shabby in a great location"
Great location, but shabby rooms. The hand basin leaked into the waste bin, but this was repaired the day I reported it..Did not dare turn the air conditioning on or walk bare foot on the carpet. Managed to open the window a few centimeter for fresh air.

 "NYC Trip"
Lines for check-in were almost always long -- took a large tip to the bell captain to get my keys [very bad back]. No convenient restrooms for arrivals waiting [see previous]. Fleas in luggage room in the basement -- both my friend & I were bitten. Rooms need a whole lot of repair tho I understand the place is to be torn down. Surprise charge on my bill -- haven't had to find out what it is for.

 "Good value for money"
It's a real tourist factory but also really good value for money. Perfectly situated, smack in the middle of Manhattan. Aged but overall clean & descent. Good bedding, bathroom with a tub/shower that worked perfectly. What more do you need? Breakfast was also basic but fine. Would stay here again.

 "Bad experience"
rooms need some updated, bugs, old tv, wifi to slow and expensive, noisy environment, sorry, but this was a bad choice. I really love location, is great, we ate in one of the restaurants down stairs, bad service, terrible food, we were expecting something better, next time we'll find a better place to stay in NYC.

"Rooms with third world standard, big disappointment"
Nice place in the internet, but bad in reality. Rooms dirty, damaged doors, rust in the bathroom, tainted toilet and ceiling, unsteady board in the bathroom from which things fell into the toilet, windows did not close well (noise from the street at night), shower may only be set completely off or full power water jet; the lavatory seems to be 40 years old. Breakfast in small crowded room with tiny tables and space to sit. Poor choices as to food, not a nice breakfast buffet. Depressive corridors, last renovation 30 years ago? I was full of bright and glamorous expectations and thought in America the standard was higher than in Europe but arriving I felt kind of duped and I took pictures of all that. It appears to me that this hotel believes that the location in central NY makes it unnecessary to offer nice rooms to the guests. I am sure, this hotel is a real cash cow for the owners who do not reguard it as necessary to renovate. But the staff was very friendly and it was no problem to get an extra bed, that was soothing. Also good: Internet for free in the breakfast room.

"The most disappointing hotel and online service"
The hotel was extremely dirty. Being a 2 star hotel is not an excuse for lack of total cleanliness. But the most horrible experience was when I tried to change the booking with easytobook. Easy to book, yes! But not so easy when you want to make changes. I advise all viewers to do the booking themselves with the hotel directly. It was a nightmare and hours of phone calls.

 "I like this hotel"
I like this hotel. It's my second stay.It was clean, but the carpet and the bath tub has to be changed. The cable TV was terrible, the old TV SET,no HD CHANNELS,you could hardly see peple on TV.THAT was the worst part.

 "Welcome to the seventies"
A real shame... At the rates this place is charging, I do expect a better level of upkeep. Bowed ceilings, peeling wallpaper, splintered woodwork, dank smelling room... I booked a superior double, when I saw what I was given, complained and was given a vaguely better room. Was only on a short stopover so decided to stick rather than twist. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

 "Don't stay in hotel Penn"
Would not recommend this hotel to anyone, receptionists are extremely rude and rooms are dilapidated and in substantial need of updating and repair. Tap in bath fell off in my hand. Leg of sink fell off, sink leaked when used. Window to room didn't shut properly etc

 "NYC Marathon 2012"
We booked this hotel italy one day before leaving for the marathon in New York 'cause the storm that Sandy had rendered unusable booked in advance.Maybe it was our good fortune to have found this hotel in a great position because in front of the subway to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. We had booked a quad room and it was actually very spacious with a large bathroom and also clean.

 "Would never go back!"
We were looking forward to staying here but were severely dissapointed with the whole visit. The main entrance looks lovely until you get into your room. We had a family room with a 'supposed king sized bed' and queen sized. I think their must have been an inch of a difference in size, their was no tea/coffee making facilities, the bath had horrible stain marks, the room was old and very outdated and it wasn't as though it was cheap! The only thing good about this hotel is it's location as the staff are so rude. They won't answer you but just point where things are. You even have to pay for leaving your luggage if you are there early. AVOID if you can!

 "Worst customer service ever experienced"
My daughter arrived at the hotel after a long flight, and was immediately refused the room which we had booked through Easy to book, as she did not have the debit card that I had used to book the room. She was asked for a credit card, which she does not have, and again informed that she would not be allowed to stay at the hotel without a credit card. After two hours of me attempting to communicate with the hotel manager on the telephone from the UK - my daughter was allowed to use her debit card.I then had to cancel my original booking, and my daughter was charged a higher room rate at the hotel than I had paid on line with Easy-to-book.The staff at Hotel Pennsylvannia are the rudest staff I have ever encountered in any hotel around the world. They continued to be rude and dismissive throughout my daughter's stay. One member of the reception staff was even yawning as she answered my telephone call one morning. The rooms are old, but adequate. Maid service is daily, however, a request had to be made on several occasions for the beds to be made.Even though the hotel is in the most central tourist location, the terrible attitude of the hotel staff unfortunately stays with us, and we will not be returning to this hotel.

 "Great location, but too expensive"
At my arrival in the lobby, I thought it looked like a nice clean hotel. However, the room was not what I expected: the ceiling was peeling off as well as the shower floor, and there was a bit of mold on the bathroom floor. I think I really overpaid my stay; breakfeast was included in the price, but it wasn't even a restaurant: it was a "lounge" with a really small buffet of bagels, croissants, muffins and coffee and orange juice. That's for a 15$ extra... I would stay in this hotel again for the awesome location it has,but I would definitely not pay for the so called breakfeast.

"Helpful staff value for money hotel"
As other reviews have stated the rooms are small but how much time do you want to spend in a hotel room. The staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive.

 "My opinion about Hotel Pennsylvenia"
- in my opinion the hotel was to big and has a to small reception (where you have to wait in a line??? Even when you have a question, or want to check in?!! never seen that before?- the internet use costs money?!! that service has to be free now a days!!- if you want to put your luggage in storage (for example if you have to check out but don't leave NY) you have to pay money S4 per piece of luggage!!? And when u pick it up the guy who is standing there also begs for a tip!!- there is no shutle bus from hotel to airport, with a cab it wil cost you S60 (again not a big service of the hotel)I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anybody! It was my first and last time! The only positive i could discover was that the bed and tv where good and also the location is perfect, just a few moments away(walking) from Time Square, Bryant Park, Central Park(about 30/45 min), Empire State(around the corner), Macys, 5th Ave etc etc.
