Most people refer to the east side of New York as either the Upper East Side or the Lower East Side. The two segments of the east side of New York are quite different too. The Upper East Side is located in Manhattan borough and contains addresses recognized around the world including 5th Avenue and Central Park. The Lower East Side is also in the Manhattan borough but is recognized for its multicultural working class immigrant roots leading to the development of Chinatown, the Bowery and Little Italy. There are discount hotels in the East Side of New York no matter which area is visited.

There are many different attractions in both areas. The Upper East Side of New York is a high rent district with a number of museums located along 5th Avenue. You can visit the well known Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum for example. Visitors staying in budget hotels in the Lower East Side of New York are often interested in experiencing the wealth of multicultural opportunities. These opportunities exist because of the immigrant communities that were established beginning in the mid-1800s. The food alone draws visitors to this neighborhood. You can eat Jewish kosher foods or specialty Japanese cuisine, drink beer in an Irish pub, or dine in a Polish restaurant. The Lower East Side also contains a large section of the East Village. The East Village has its own culture that grew out of the 1960s art and music scene.
