I stayed at Metro Apartments for 10 days based on a friend's recommendation. The location is good - 5 minutes walk to Times Square. But surrounding is not good. On one side you have a flyover busy all the time with heavy traffic (so dont even try to open the door) and on the other side there is a building under construction. In brief, very noisy surrounding. The rooms are musty (but I have found this smell in other, good hotels as well thanks to the old carpets). However, the rooms are spacious - so you can have a guest - with a decent kitchen and a big closet for baggage. You can get an extra roll-on bed for $25 per night, which helps. They charged $ 57 for housekeeping but the apartment was not cleaned at all during my stay. I was told this money was for common maintenance, not rooms. Amongst the staff, Chris is particularly friendly and helpful. Next time I visit NY, I am going to explore other options...

"NYC"
This was a great place to stay. The room was really new. The staff were excellent. The only problem I had was there was no wifi connection in the rooms. Only in the foyer, which was somewhat of a problem. Would have been more of a problem if I had been there on business, but I wasn't. Just inconvenient. Also the phone did not come to the room either. Laundry in the building was handy. Great location. There was building works happening across the street, but I was easily able to sleep. Didn't use the kitchen facility in the room, but it had everything you could need!

Pros: Room was clean and looked recently painted etc, location was quite good - close to time square and port authority
Cons: Area felt a little bit dodge, very noisy from the traffic below

"The apartment was a good size and when we did find staff they were helpful,..."
Pros: The apartment was a good size and when we did find staff they were helpful, everything looked much like it did in the pictures and the location was pretty good if you want to go to time square, lots of places to eat on 9th and hells kitchen market on saturdays is close by. internet is free which is good. good if your a family we had a one bedroom which had two double beds
but the bed settee we were told was there was non existant so an inflatable bed was provided.
Cons: Noise, noise, noise, never stopped i know this is the city that never sleeps this is not my first visit to nyc, but with noise from the lift, the building work going on 24/7 directly outside and the noise from the bus terminal directly opposite there was no let up so if you want sleep this is not an option.and as this is the route to lincoln tunnel then traffic gets pretty jammed. also we had no brush to sweep floors and you have to pay for clean linens if you want them changing which we did as we were there for two weeks (but they did this complimentary with a free clean too ) also according to the details we should have had a bed settee but although we had a nice one it wasn't a bed settee as stated in the details but they provided us with a blow up bed not what you really want when you are there for two weeks and paid nearly £4,000 for. the staff although helpful when found never seem to be around so you get no instruction on anything ? theres no cooker so forget preparing any food if you want to like we did on christmas day only a microwave a hob and no kettle just coffee machine.

"Brand new room on the 10th floor"
Pros: Brand new room on the 10th floor. huge bedroom, with two double beds, excellent bathroom, good size kitchen area and lounge room. door staff excellent.
Cons: Very hard to get intouch with the hotel management staff. free internet did not work. the hotel is in a safe appartment block 3 blocks (10 minutes walk) from times square, but the surrounding block is a bit scary to walk around at night. best to cross past the police street booth, onto 42th street, and walk up to ts from there rather than 41st street. lots of building and construction work happening at all hours of the day and night.

"Close to times square, clean, perfect for somewhere to rest your head,..."
Pros: Close to times square, clean, perfect for somewhere to rest your head, nothing more
Cons: Hidden charges on the room. the final fee you pay for over the internet increases when you see your credit card bill, deceptively expensive. hotel is still under construction so noisy everywhere, air conditioning in room extremely loud also
Pros: The staff was courteous and very helpful. new rooms were very nice, but this wasn't where my party was placed initially.
Cons: The building was being renovated, and the first rooms my party got were terrible -- old, poor condition, and smelly. the staff moved us to new rooms which were excellent, but if this hadn't been available the stay would have been awful.

"Positive experience was being given the opportunity to move into a one..."
Pros: Positive experience was being given the opportunity to move into a one bedroom suite (with 2 queen beds in one room)instead of our original 2 single rooms.
Cons: Negative was original rooms were very old, smelled terribly of disinfectants and weren't very clean looking. if we hadn't been moved, we would likely have tried to get our money back and move to another hotel. lobby was also under construction and wasn't very appealing. elevators were also in state of construction and dirty.

"It is located close to big attractions, such as times square"
Pros: It is located close to big attractions, such as times square.
Cons: The hotel was under construction,so there was no lobby, only a small, messy room that 'welcomed' us. i couldn't believe the staff was actually trained to work in a hotel, most of them didn't give a s--- about us. we didn't have high expectations because of the low prices, but it felt more like one of those creepy motels you see in movies. we realized there were plenty of hotels with in much better condition, with the same prices all over town. the aircondition didn't work, and it made such a horrible sound,we didn't use it anyway, and since it was in august, that became quite hot. the bathroom was clean, but there was mold on the floors and bath tub. we found a fake, painted fingernail between the sheets, got stuck in the old elevator (only one of the two was actually working in the first place) and that sort of freaked us out a little bit. not very satisfied with this hotel, but looking back at it,i don't care much cause it's nyc! caroline, norway
"The room was spacious and a good location, once renovation work on the..."
Pros: The room was spacious and a good location, once renovation work on the lobby complete will be better.
Cons: I booked two rooms and upon arrival the staff were only aware of one room being booked although they had 4 guests against the booking. this was most annoying as it was late at night and we had been travelling all day and had to wait for this to be sorted.
The rating of 3 stars means you can experience a touch of luxury at Metro Apartments. The vast selection of rooms on offer here can make you feel rather spoiled. Staying here gives you easy access to Times Square and Michael Perez Pop Art Gallery. The hotel is easily accessible due to its proximity to Penn station . Victorian Gardens is a short distance away from here. Besides many tourist attractions, there is plenty to do at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center throughout the year.
A terrace is just one part of Metro Apartments. If you forgot something at home, don't worry, there is a minimarket on the premises. The accommodation offers a concierge service, a late check-out option and an express check-in/out service. If you are a single traveler, lighten up; a night club will provide entertainment. The 92 rooms are appointed with all facilities you need during your stay in New York.
Useful in this climate, air conditioning is provided in the rooms of Metro Apartments. Local New York calls are free of cost. The state of the bathroom is a factor on which many travellers base their choice for their stay. The bathrooms here come with a shower/bath combination. Rooms here can offer a city view or a courtyard view. Self catering enthusiasts will be happy to note the presence of a refrigerator, a kitchen linen set (dish towels, sponges, etc.) and a stove in some rooms.
