Cons: It started with the hotel address in the website: it's 243 w 55th not 234. the hotel was described as a boutique hotel with "artistic details you would expect to find just steps from the museum of modern art." instead i found a run-down building full of repetitive warhol marilyn and campbell soup prints throughout the corridors and the rooms. the rooms were dark and gloomy because the window -- disguised with a wooden blind -- faced a narrow alley overlooking a brick wall; the internal lighting did not compensate for the lack of natural light. the dark red and green walls in the room also did not help. (only the double rooms at the front and back have 'real' windows). i had to change rooms 3 times because the air conditioner didn't work. to top it all, the cleaning products had a cheap strawberry smell that made me nauseous. there was absolutely nothing that gave the hotel a "fashionable and fresh appeal." this was simply an old nyc building that once had been done in a modern way but that now looked dated and cheap. the moderne desperately needs refurbishment. until then, the description of the hotel in the website needs considerable editing as to not misguide future guests.
