Soho Photo Gallery is a non-profit gallery that has been around since 1971. It was created by a group of freelancers and fine art photographers. Today it's run and managed by a membership of 100 artists. The gallery feature four solo exhibits by members each month. These exhibits are on the main floor. The average size of each exhibit is 15 pieces. In total, Soho Photo Gallery hosts 11 monthly exhibits each year.
Exhibits are usually the work of members. Sometimes exhibits from guest artists are displayed. Members are professional photographers and advanced amateur photographers from the New York Metro area. There is a membership fee that goes towards operating the gallery. The gallery hosts an annual National Photographic Competition and the winnings are usually announced during the months of July and August. It is open to all photographic techniques. The gallery also sponsors the Krappy Kamera Competition for pictures taken with homemade cameras, plastic cameras, or toy cameras. Soho Photo Gallery also presents seminars, guest lecturers and hands-on workshops dealing with cutting-edge photographic techniques and issues. Topics covered in the past include Polaroid transfers, palladium printing, and pinhole photography. Other topics covered have been self-promotion, digital technology and benefit auctions.
