"Great staff"

Pros: Great staff. excellent location.
Cons: Poor temperature control. sure, it was 60 degrees. but turning off the heat in the room, although not in the bathroom where there seemed to be no way to turn the heat off, was insufficient; we had to use the air conditioner to cool the room sufficiently.

Pros: An ideal place to stay if you actually realise that there is much more to new york than times square! located in greenwich village, extremely close to the subway and within easy reach to soho (could certainly walk it).
the hotel was small with an almost boutique style and feel about it. even though the rooms were small (probably the same size as most peoples own bedrooms at home) it really didn't matter - after all you're only there to sleep. at the end of the day they were clean and extremely comfortable.
the staff were really friendly and the concierge were extremely helpful (ronnie jenkins inparticular was an absolute legend!). i wouldn't worry too much about whether or not you get breakfast included. we did - it included, fruit, cereal, bagel, bread rolls, orange juice & tea and coffee - after the 3rd day of it we stopped going and instead grabbed a bagel with cream cheese, bacon etc from the waverly restaurant around the corner - cheap and cheerful and so much more to choose on the menu - plus you felt like you were one of the locals.
i cannot recommend this hotel enough as long as you don't expect to be in a skyscraper hotel in midtown...the washington square hotel is where it's at if you want to feel part of new york city.
