The Brooklyn Museum of Art is known for having one of the world's finest exhibits of Egyptian art from every culture and every era. The 560,000 square foot museum is one of the oldest and largest art museums in North America. It's part of a complex series of nineteenth century parks like Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, and the Prospect Park Zoo. The museum has 6,000 pieces from Africa with several collections from Central Africa and also major or important works by American artists like John Singer Sargent, Edward Hopper, John Marin, and Norman Rockwell. An extensive collection of Native American and Spanish colonial collections like ceramics, textiles, monumental stone sculptures, jade, wood carving, goldwork and silverwork can also be found here. They have over 1,000 objects of Chinese art and culture spanning 5,000 years fo history. There are 8,000 Japanese objects from 400 BC to the 11th century, and the Brooklyn Museum has the third largest collection of Korean art in the United States, 2,000 objects from the Islamic world that span 13 centuries and 1,500 European paintings and sculptures.
