Scandinavia House is home to the Nordic Center of America, and is the headquarters for the American-Scandinavian Foundation. The American-Scandinavian Foundation is a non-profit organization whose goal is to build cultural and educational ties between the United States and the Nordic countries. The Nordic countries include Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Scandinavia House offers an assortment of art, design, and historical exhibitions. Film series, lectures, concerts, symposia, and language courses are also available to guests. Scandinavia House also features regular programs for children and families. These activities are held in the Heimbold Family Children's Learning Center. Most activities are for children between the ages of 1 and 10. At the center children learn about Scandinavia culture through books, toys, workshops and parties.
All activities at the Children's Center are free of charge for ASF members from Tuesday to Saturday, for a child entrance is $5. Both the library and gallery are free of charge. Those who would like to visit the gallery pay a fee. Those who enjoy shopping can buy unique items at the Shop at Scandinavia House, located on the first floor. The store, called The Nordic Center in America, carries all types of items like art glass, textiles, jewelry, and household goods. The designs of all items are distinctive and the colors are bold.
