The Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts is part of Pace University and is located at the university's downtown campus facing City Hall. It is the largest theater in Lower Manhattan and has 743 seats. It was created more than 25 years ago, and since then has been an important part of the community. It is also the home to the National Actors Theater, an organization founded in 1991 by the late actor Tony Randall. The National Actors Theater is the only professional theater to be housed in a New York City university. The Art Center presents a wide variety of theater shows including drama, dance, comedy, jazz, opera, and some cabaret.
In addition to the theater, The Michael Schimmel Center is home to an art gallery featuring a diverse selection of work from artists and photographers. The roster changes frequently.
