North of 59th Street and East of Central Park is an oasis of exclusive real estate. The Upper East Side is home to New York City’s Museum Mile. Adjoining Central Park are more than 10 museums and institutions. The Frank Lloyd Wright Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, and the Frick Collection are all located here. After an immersion in culture it is time to window shop at the world’s most expensive stores lining Madison Avenue. Many of the cafes and restaurants on Madison Avenue are reasonably priced and serve great food as do the four star restaurants like Café Boulard and Daniel.
Roosevelt Island is a five minute tram ride to Upper East Side in New York. The island is a quite suburb today but has a unique and interesting past. The island was originally populated by the insane and criminals. Penwick Ruin is still standing at the top of the island. The ruins are what are left of a former small pox hospital. Everyone will enjoy the cable car tram ride to and from the island.
