Some of New York’s most vibrant neighborhoods are located along the Hudson River. Hell’s Kitchen, the Upper West Side, Chelsea, Morningside Heights, SoHo, and TriBeCa are all situated on the West Side of Manhattan Island, separated from the East side by Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and the world famous Central Park. Each of these neighborhoods has a culture of its own with its own festivals and its own foods.
Morningside Heights is home to the Catholic Church of St. John the Divine, an unfinished Gothic style cathedral begun in 1892. Even unfinished the cathedral is considered the largest Gothic church in the world. SoHo and TriBeCa are known for funky reclaimed lofts and chic boutiques. A visit to Hell’s Kitchen is a reminder of the years immigrants poured into the city through Ellis Island.
