Half way between New York City and Albany, nestled in the Hudson River Valley, is the city of Poughkeepsie, New York. The towns name comes from a Native American word that roughly translates to the reed covered lodge by the little water place. Historians believe that the name is referring to a small stream to the south of modern day downtown Poughkeepsie.
