Like many of New York’s towns, Schoharie, New York gets its name from a Native American word. In this case, the name of the town translates to ‘driftwood.’ The town of Schoharie also has a Village of Schoharie, located at the northeast border of the town. The area was first settled in the early 18th century by German immigrants. Unfortunately, many of the town’s historic buildings were destroyed in the American Revolution.

But if you start your sightseeing in Schoharie, see the Schoharie Creek and the Cobleskill Creek. These two creeks intersect in the northwest area of town, where you can find the lovely Old Central Bridge.
