Arlington is situated on the I-20, 14 miles east of Fort Worth and 22 miles west of Dallas, in a busy metropolitan area. Arlington is the 7th largest city in Texas and the 50th largest city in the United States. It has approximately 371,000 residents. Surprisingly, Arlington is also the largest US city without a form of mass transport system. After a battle in 1841 between the Indians of Village Creek settlement and General Tarrant’s army, the area was settled farmers, who grew cotton. By 1954 massive industrialization had taken place and General Motors built an automobile plant here. The development of the aerospace industry also led to a boom in the population, rising to 359,467 by 2004.
Arlington is home to many sports teams including the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. The Dallas Cowboys will be opening their new $1.1 billion stadium in 2009, and hosting the Super Bowl XLV in 2011. Many visitors to Arlington enjoy the Six Flags over Texas theme park which includes roller coaster rides and Hurricane Harbor, a huge waterpark. Arlington Highlands is an entertainment hotspot and the Theatre Arlington has productions throughout the year. The Parks Mall is excellent for retail shopping. The Dallas Arboretum and Fort Worth Botanic Gardens are also beautiful places to visit. There are many hotels in and around Arlington for all budgets. Hotel bookings can easily be made through EasyToBook.com.
