Cedar Park is a small city, north of Austin, Texas and 177 miles North West of Houston. The estimated population is 52,721, which is double the population in 1990. Archaeological evidence shows continuous habitation of Cedar Park for over 10,000 years. In the 1890’s Austin residents would take day trips out to Cedar Park as it was a railroad stop on the Austin and Northwest railroad, to enjoy the ‘strolling’ park which had been created. In 2007 it was chosen by Family Circle magazine as one of the top 10 Cities in the US to raise a family in.

Cedar Park straddles Williamson and Travis counties, and covers 17 square miles. It is a prosperous town with higher than average income per household. It boasts a new regional hospital, (Cedar Park Regional) and has an excellent shopping and dining complex called 1890 Ranch. Cedar Park Center is the future home for the Texas Stars American Hockey League team. Cedar Park has many attractions including the nearby Lake Travis; caving in the Cedar Park cave preserves; and riding on the Austin steam train which has a 1920’s open carriage, or the 1950’s air conditioned Pullman coach. The Heritage Society also manages some interesting historical sites, photographs and buildings and gives guided tours. There are many parks, shopping centers and several good hotels in the area.
