Built in 1965, the Astrodome became the first ever domed stadium. Until the late 1990’s, it served as home turf for two of the city’s major sports franchises: the NFL’s Houston Oilers, and the MLB’s Houston Astros. In 1998, the Oilers moved to Nashville, TN and became the Tennessee Titans, and the Astros moved to Minute Maid Park in 2000.
The Stadium is a multi-purpose one and uses movable lower seating. For baseball events, the dome holds over 54,000 spectators, while that number grows to over 62,000 for football events. The Astrodome has been host to the Houston Bowl, the Bluebonnet Bowl, the Final Four, and Wrestlemania.
