Rice Stadium has seen its fair share of major events, from President John F. Kennedy’s speech in 1962 to Super Bowl VIII in 1974. Rice Stadium is the current home of the Rice Owls NCAA football team, though bigger games are played at near-by Reliant Stadium due to the upper deck at Rice Stadium being in poor condition.
Since its completion in 1950, the Stadium has been the home of the Rice Owls, and from 1951 to 1964 was also the home of the University of Houston Cougars. From 1965 to 1967, the Houston Oilers of the American Football League (now part of the NFL) called Rice Stadium home. Finally, Rice Stadium hosted the Bluebonnet Bowl from 1959 to 1967 and again from 1985 to 1986.
