Virginia is on the eastern coast of the United States, bordered by North Carolina, West Virginia, Kentucky and Maryland. It has over 7.6 million residents. The state capital is Richmond, and Virginia Beach is the most densely populated area, due to its proximity to the military bases in the area. Virginia’s main export is computer chips, and the industry is based on the workforce graduating from the area’s top public schools and universities. Virginia is a very scenic state. It is bordered by Chesapeake Bay on the east, and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west, and both are areas of outstanding natural beauty. Its highest point is Mount Rogers at 5729 feet (1747m). 65% of the state is covered in forests, which make a beautiful show of color in the fall. There are many wild animals and birds including cardinals, owls and hawks. The Chesapeake Bay is known for its blue crabs, clams, oysters and striped bass and had a thriving seafood industry in the past.
The historic triangle of Jamestown, Yorktown and Colonial Williamsburg has a wonderful historical heritage and draws many visitors each year to the restored towns and historic landmarks. The state of Virginia has a humid subtropical climate to the east of the Blue Ridge mountain with lows of 26F (-3C) and summer highs of 86F (30C). The coastal areas occasionally suffer from hurricanes, and thunderstorms and tornadoes are commonplace.
