Crocodile Lake, or, Bai Sau, in the northeastern corner of Ho Chi Minh City, is part of the area called Suoi Tien, known for its wild landscape, being right in the midst of a tropical rain forest. Any animal lover should stop here on a trip to Vietnam, as the variety and volume of rare wild animals is astounding, to say the least, and Bai Sau exemplifies this reputation perfectly. Some pretty rare species of crocodile are preserved here, like the Green Peafowl, which only comes out during morning hours, the Bronze Winged Jacana (don’t worry, he can’t fly), the Lesser Adjutant and the Purple Heron, who comes out during late afternoon. Crocodile Lake is thought to house perhaps more than two thousand crocodiles.
Aside from the lake itself, there is also an impressive aquarium here, where you can watch fish and sea mammals swimming through glass tunnels. Literally hundreds of different breeds of fish are kept here. Aviary enthusiasts can also bring their binoculars for some bird spotting, as such birds as the Orange Breasted Trogon and Pale Headed Woodpecker can be found flying around the nearby forest.
