One of the most important and controversial points of 20th Century world history was the Vietnam War. Of course, the Vietnam War is just the name it was given in the western hemisphere. In Vietnam, it was called the American War. At the War Remnants Museum, you’ll find a stirring collection of photographs and exhibits and be able to look at the conflict through the eyes of the Vietnamese people. If nothing else, this museum should evoke sympathy for the incredible suffering of the victims of wars. Some of the images and exhibits on display are quite graphic. These images are, nonetheless, very important, and should serve as a reminder of what the price of global conflict really is.
The museum’s own history seems to exemplify post-war sentiments. Once called ‘The Museum of American and Chinese War Crimes’, the name was changed as negative attitudes towards the American and Chinese people became less common in Vietnamese society.
