Noi Bai International Airport, being one of the main airports serving the capital city of Hanoi, has the honor of being the largest airport in Northern Vietnam, though, surprisingly, it’s actually considered fairly small in comparison to the other two international airports found in Vietnam, though it is much newer and considered a more modern facility. There are talks of building a larger airport to Hanoi, and a loan has already been secured for the proposed construction. 28 miles, or 45 kilometers, from downtown Hanoi, you can get into town from here in about thirty to forty five minutes.
The new paved runway stretches 3,800 meters, and, sitting just 250 meters away, there is an older paved runway stretching 3,200 meters. The maximum yearly capacity of the Noi Bai Airport is ten million. The airport made news in September of 2007 when it played host to an Airbus A380, the largest existing model of passenger airplane, flying in from Singapore Airlines.
