Taking a trip to the Perfume Pagoda from Hanoi can be a bit taxing. The trip is pleasant, but lengthy. First, a bus must be taken to the coast. The scenery is said to be gorgeous, but the ride is also time consuming, so make sure to bring something to read or otherwise occupy yourself. After this, you’ll need to take a ride on a row boat from the coast to the base of the mountain, and finally, a two kilometer walk from the base to the pagoda atop the mountain. When you finally reach the top, the view is breathtaking. Some visitors are disappointed by the relatively simple architecture of the Perfume Pagoda, but for its significance in Vietnamese Buddhism, the pagoda is priceless.
Tours are offered averaging about ten dollars, US, including the trip to the pagoda and back to Hanoi, and usually, lunch, which is certainly welcome after the hike up the mountain.
