Near Truc Bach Lake in Hanoi you’ll find the Quan Thanh Pagoda. The aesthetics of the site are nothing short of dazzling. Besides the other ornate decoration coloring the pagoda, you’ll find within an imposing statue of the God to which the pagoda was dedicated Huyen Thien Tran Vo, who guarded the north side of the country. The statue is made of bronze and weighs in at an incredible four tons. The bronze Huyen Thien Tran Vo is accompanied by his traditional emblems, a tortoise and a snake

The pagoda was founded somewhere between the years 1010 and 1028 AD, during the era of King Ly Thai To. It is open to the public from 7am to 11:30am, and 1:30pm to 6pm every day of the week and is considered a must see for anyone visiting the city of Hanoi and with a serious interest in the religious history and culture of Vietnam.
