Muscat is an expensive place to hang out so prices at the Beach Hotel are reasonable. There are maintenance problems with the building (wooden awnings over the balconies are detaching in some cases). Rooms on the front side are exposed to road noise; those at the back are much better. I had a choice and took 318 which was quiet. Furniture is rundown and there was a plumbing leak, although bed was fine. It is nice to have a balcony though you may have to ask to have the bird droppings removed. Staff were friendly and helpful. Pool and breakfast were decent. Internet is way too costly - better to go to the a/c mall across the street and spend the same money on a latte at one of the net cafes. Very good shops at the mall. Automatic Restaurant is a bargain. The magnificent new Opera House is across the street, but check their schedule. Beach and promenade are about 20 minutes walk which can be trying at 40 C. Muscat is remarkably clean and safe and I would return, as well as stay at the Beach Hotel.
