Mystic Hotel Istanbul  

Coveniently located, close to the Blue Mosque and Ayasofya. Unfortunately when we checked in, the owner and his daughter were really rude, not welcoming us at any point (maybe because we were only staying one night and therefore not good value for money?), not letting out a single smile during our stay - we felt like our very presence was a bother. We had booked through a website, but they flat out refused we pay by card and demanded we go to a cash machine and pay in cash. They pretended we wouldn't have to pay any fee (which is a lie), attempted to hide their card terminal and we had to heavily insist to get a receipt. We were also almost yelled out for not leaving the key with them when we went out (if you don't tell us first, how are we supposed to know?).The room itself was tiny, dilapidated and dirty. The bathroom had not been cleaned from the previous guest and had hairs on the floor, as well as a dirty foot towel. The sheets had holes in them, and the blanket was obviously a single fitted on a double bed, meaning we struggled to both fit underneath. The fridge was moldy inside. The "sea view" we paid a premium for was completely obstructed by the fire escape staircase, and the windows and curtains were filthy.Breakfast was forgettable to say the least: a few pieces of toast, tomatoes and cucumbers, a slice of cheese and undrinkable coffee and juice. They also heavily insisted we use their shuttle service to the airport, which was 15€ as opposed to the 5€ the shuttle company charges, telling us that our shuttle wouldn't find the hotel unless booked by them.Completely ruined our last day in Istanbul. AVOID! - other hotels are equally well located, for the same amount or cheaper, and you won't treated like hostel backpackers.

Pros: The location couldn't be better and management was very kind and helpful
Cons: Lack of an elevator, but i know that nothing can be done about that. the stairs are very steep and there should be some way to ask them for a lower floor if you need it.
