"Hotel level"

"City break"

Hotel is in a lovely quiet location with 2 trams passing regularly. Lovely cafes and wine bars near by to end our eveing before going back to the hotel. Good value. We didn't have breakfast as there are cafes nearby to eat in that were very reasonable and friendly.

"Good choice for visting Amsterdam at a peacful part of the city"

It was my third stay in this hotel since 2009 and for my needs, it was always the perfect choice because it´s quite there but still very close and with best connection to the city via tram and metro. Very good value and typical atmosphere of Amsterdam for those who like the spirit of this city. Rooms are small but large enough, bathrooms were always clean, only the doors seems to have ears, because you can hear noise from the floor and the doors are also closing very loud. In general, the hotel came into the years but is not ugly. A typical insight of Amsterdams spirit is guaranteed. Breakfast buffet is fine and always enough. People were always friendly and supportive.

"Poor"

If you dont mind trying to sleep in a bed made up of two single beds pushed together, or walking on carpet that looks like it was laid in the eighties and never cleaned, and you don't mind the sound of door slamming all night long when other inhabitants come and go at all hours, and you appreciate a rude manner greeting you when you first arrive at the hotel, after many hours of travel...well then this is the hotel for you! We are not fussy travellers when it comes to hotels, but when a hotel has a four star rating, we do expect a room that two people can comfortably move around in without having to squeeze past one another, and open two suitcases at the one time and have eight hours peaceful sleep, and a more appropriate way to access the toilet, than having to take an excursion via the shower. And apparently, not all staff members are aware that Visa cards are accepted as a payment option. The positive...we were swapped to a slightly larger room when we complained, the towels were lovely to use and the breakfast was good.

"Excellent Hotel!"

We stayed at this hotel for the last night of our trip as it was my boyfriends 30th, I had contacted the hotel in advance and they had arranged champagne on arrival which was great. The rooms were spacious, well kept and clean. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was good. In all a fantastic stay!

15 minute walk to the station.
clean place and very friendly staff.
nice bathroom and good variety of tv channels.
good value for money.
Cons: Small room and bathroom, but you get what you pay for.

"The tram stops just outside the hotel (to the left) although the walk into..."

Pros: The tram stops just outside the hotel (to the left) although the walk into center is only 20 mins...(2 hours when we got lost!) the zoo opposite (artis) is fantastic and only 19 euros...it's massive. there is a handy luggage room and vending machines for "odd bits" plus the helpful free toothbrushes and tooth paste, razors (which we couldn't bring in our hand luggage on the plane) they supplied (if you asked at reception)...overall a lovely hotel, lovely area, clean rooms and really quiet. we were on 4th floor tho.
Cons: Ok...only one thing which really did not get me in the best of moods. and would have walked out on arrival if i hadn't pre booked....the receptionist "max" don't know if it's his accent, or just the way he comes across but he was so blunt and miserable on arrival considering our long day/flight. plus i had to give in a credit card to "secure" my room which i didn't have so a friend (who was with me) had to give his. wasn't happy as this wasn't explained before. so make sure you have a credit card. i dread to think what would have happened if my friend didn't have one. "max"...i kept asking to explain and he simply was quite ...(not rude but just very unfriendly.) saying that, later on he seemed a lot cheerier and the other lady receptionist that night was lovely ( i forget her name) but was helpful and explain why you needed the credit card (for security).
other than that...fab hotel.

Cons: The room was far too small, i specified two single beds and had a double, albeit there were two duvets! the room was also quite dirty, the kettle was covered in dust and the carpet didn't look as though it had been hoovered around the edges for months!the room was also at the front of the hotel above the front door and because of the no smoking policy everyone colected at the front smoking, so if i opened the window i may as well have been smoking in my room, which as a non smoker was not very pleasant!

Excellent Hotel!

The elegant Hampshire Hotel - Lancaster Amsterdam is perfectly located in the city centre, within walking distance of the famous Waterloo Square and Rembrandtplein.
