It should be noted that there is a music practice studio on the first floor of the hotel building and you can hear them practising until 11pm each night, sometimes the same song over and over again. Some of the time it's actually really good, and sometimes it is really quite bad. While I was there I only spent a few hours each night after the conference actually in the room, but it was very noticeable. Rap, rock, death metal, everyone gets a chance it seems. Other than that the hotel was great, but it was cold at night and I had to ask for another blanket.

Location is quite good, just 5 mins can reach to Cable Car terminal in California street but a bit far away from Civic Center BART or Powell BART. However from Union Square can take No.38 bus back to Encore. Around this hotel, hv many supermarket around and also hv steak house, Swan Oysters etc. Wifi network signal is weak, this needs to be improved!Soundproof is poor, I can hear others singing everyday when they are bathing. Also this become a disturb during sleeping if next room wake up at early.

The location is awesome, the Nob hill neighborhood is nice and safe, conviently located in terms of transportation (close to Van Ness avenue with its buses and to California street with its cable car), there are two coffee shops (Starbucks and Peetz) one block away, Whole Foods a couple of blocks away. The rooms are big and stylish, there is a sink and a small fridge in the room as well as the TV with some 5-6 channels. WiFi signal was great, the staff was very helpful. You can leave your baggage prior to check-in and after check-out in the special room. The price is unbelievably low for SF.Some minor inconveniences: the common shower and the toilet are combined, so sometimes you are left waiting for someone to wash and dry his/her hair... There are always music bands rehearsing in the adjacent studio and you can hear them clearly. But they never play after 11 pm

The hotel is situated close to the center of San Fran. The staff was very helpful and the rooms were clean. Could be difficult to fall asleep due to the city life buzzing.

Pros: The hotel was clean and offered good value for the money.
Cons: The sound isolation could be better. also when my delayed luggage arrived from the airport no one in the hotel told me about it before i've asked myself. the speed of wi-fi is good but many sites are surprisingly blocked (even sites like vimeo.com).

Pros: I had car trouble and was in need of a mechanic. the hotel staff was most concern and helpful. also, my phone charger was moved by the maid, and i couldn't find it so one of the hotel staff lent me his.

Pros: Staff & location are the only positive
Cons: They also provide 13 music studio for band music in the basement for location. so there is no way that you can stay in your room before 11pm every night! the shared bathrooms are not suficient and dirty! don't stay there, you can find much better place for about the same price (60$/night).

Pros: The room was clean, the location was perfect and the price was very competitive
Cons: No hot water in little sink in the room, which was rather a nuisance since one needed to go to the shared bathroom even to wash hands or brush teeth (i had a shared bathroom option), thin walls (so it is noisy with noisy neighbours), a strong smell of hash in the corridor (sometimes in the room as well - perhaps when the neighbours were smoking), fungus in the (shared) bathroom

Pros: We loved the old building and decor of the hotel. staff were friendly and helpful.
Cons: The noise level from the studio downstairs was pretty high until 11 or so. we had to leave at 5 am and so were trying to sleep. not too much of a problem if you have earplugs.

Pros: Good price for a decent hotel in a pretty good location. bed was very comfortable. we felt safe. was happy there was a laundry that we could use. this is more of a good hostel with private rooms.
Cons: Although it wasn't problematic for us, the bathrooms are shared and down the hall. there is no elevator and the stairs are steep.
