Hotel Agora Amesterdão    

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights over Queen's day period with another couple. Because we booked eary, we got a really good rate. It's in a good location. Cannot fault the cleanliness & rooms. Our only dissatisfaction was that not all the staff were friendly. The ones that were could not be more helpful. Breakfast was a bit hit & miss, but they blamed Queen's day for no deliveries. There was also a loud disco next door that kept us awake one night, but it was quiet the other 3 nights. We would definitley stay here again & would recommend this hotel if you get it at a good price.

We enjoyed our short break at this hotel. the first room we were given was up four narrow flights of stairs. The room itself was small and the bathroom was outside the room. I went down to reception to ask if there was any chance of having a room lower down in the hotel and was immediately given a bigger room with en suite four steps up. The guy at reception could not have been more helpful. it was a bit of a shame that the hotel was undergoing renovations so the lounge and dining space was limited, but it is the early quiet season in Amsterdam and I'm sure the improvements will be worth the wait. All in all I would recommend this hotel, if for nothing else the excellent location within the city. There are good tram links, a large supermarket on the corner and most attractions are easily reached either on foot or by tram. We will be back here, but will make sure we contact the owners to arrange for the same room, as suggested by the guy in reception.

The people we met, have been very nice an the hotel is located in the middle of Life in Amsterdam, wich is great, but: It is very loud, we could here our neighbour on the toilet :-) The rooms are old and a bit too worn and shabby. The breakfast was not what we expected for a Room of up to 150€ per night. Nice stay for a backpacker, not realy for someone, that wants an "uptodate-Hotel"

I was really pleased with staff service. They were really friendly and helpful. The Hotel itself is old, but rooms are cleaned and are well looked after. Many people complain about the breakfast, but it was not too bad, well, it did fill me up!!! In the end of the day most people come to enjoy Amsterdam and only sleep in their rooms and therefore it’s perfect for that!!! Rooms are cleaned every day!!! Location is perfect, nice clean and welcoming place!!!! I had a good time!!!! But if you guys want something five star , do not expect it in this hotel, but if u want a nice, tidy and comfortable place to sleep and have a wash, for reasonably cheap price and great location, this is the place for you.

My stay at hotel agora was perfect. I was on a tight budget with my boyfriend visiting Amsterdam and all it had to offer. We selected it because it offered breakfast, has wifi, has an en suit and the location is extremely central to all the attractions. Ok it furniture looked at like it was from your nans home and the TV you probably had as a teenager but it was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was small but perfectly formed, and the staff were helpful and polite. You are given a card key to let you in any doors leading to your room including the outside door so you can gain entry any time day or night, if you are more of a night owl there is no worry you may be locked out. Breakfast is served at reasonable times half 7 till ten and consists of the basics, cereals, toast, a selection of teas and coffee, juice, jam, cheese and Ham. Some fruit and eggs also. There are plentiful cafes near by (practically next door) if you preference a full English. It wasnt quiet the view over lokking the courtyard they'd made outit to be but In my opoinin if you are a young couple on a budget, it is just perfect. I truly enjoyed my stay. X

Pros: The staff at the hotel were very friendly and approachable and there was always someone there if we needed anything. we were very impressed that the safe in the room was free! the location was great and was a good base to start from. we didn't use public transport once and managed to get to everywhere we wanted to within a 15 minute walk.
Cons: Although the room was clean it was tired looking. in our 3 night/4 day stay our room was not cleaned once. now i'm not expecting them to come in and do a full blown polish and hoover but the bins were overflowing by the time we'd left and we'd had to get some new toilet roll from a cupboard on the landing when ours ran out. this may have been due to the fact that we stayed over new years eve and the cleaner was on holiday etc but it wasn't very good. the breakfast was also awful! the first day we went down there were no knives so i had to spread my butter and jam with a teaspoon. the only fruit that was there were a load of apples, there were only two types of cereals, brown or white bread with an incredibly slow toaster and some small fruit pastries. we skipped it the 2nd day and then on the 3rd day we tried again and there was no fruit, no pastries and this time there were knives but no tea spoons! if you're going to book this hotel don't expect the ritz and i wouldn't bother with the breakfast, but it really is a great base and the staff were lovely so if you're not looking for much and aren't planning on staying indoors much then go for it!

Pros: Unfortunately, we could not have any positive points, sorry.
Cons: When we need to ask something to the staff, noboday at the reception. moreover, at the morning we could not eat breakfast because noboday was in the reception, even the cafe space was locked!

Pros: It was my second time to stay hotel agora. i like non-canal view room. canal view is so nice but sometimes noizy at night especially on weekend.

Cons: At the night of saturday upon sunday they we went out and came back around 4:00 am. we could not open the door. the keycard worked, but the door was stuck. there was nobody at the front desk to open the door event the reception should be open 24h . we waited one hour outside in the cold (-2) and could not reach someone from the reception. after one hour the night receptionist came back and he promised them to stay longer then the official check-out time. also he promised them that he will tell everything to the morning receptionist and that the problem would be solved



the morning receptionist did not know anything about this matter and could not help them. we wanted the last night to be refund. only the manager can decide about this. unfortunately she was not reachable before 4.00 pm.

now, 5 days later, no reply from her. finally i manage to find number of another hotel where i found her and she was almost laughing at me and telling that she had not had the time to look at it.

over all, it was horrible experience and we will never book this hotel again.

Pros: Friendly staff, good central location
Cons: Cleanliness of overall hotel poor, needs redocorating. not cheap and quite loud as next door to a nightclub
