Golden bear is a very friendly and great hotel! Super clean, amazing location, extremely friendly and helpful staff, can't ask for much more really. Make sure you don't have a big suitcase with you, because the stairs are steep but nothing major! Beds where great quality and very nice decoration in the rooms. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough.

We had fabulous stay here the staff were very friendly the room was clean and comfy breakfast was delicious but maybe just missed some yoghurt or cereal.Cannot wait to go back

Rooms are clean and big enough. It's not a palace but is ok. The building has some years but seems to have a maintenance. The stairs are steep and wooden. It is between the center and the Van Gogh museum, more or less. It is not in the center, but you can get there walking a bit. Trams are near also. The bad thing is that the toilets are shared. You can have sandwiches with fried eggs as breakfast or toasts. Cofee or tea and orange juice.

It was a nice stay. We had the room on the backside so not much noise from the streets but more the fact you could hear the rest of the guests. Its a gay hotel but its more like a male gay hotel so if your lesbian you would rather find another place. Seems its the older gays staying there to say it like that. But beside that location was great and the staff was really helpful and nice. I had some questions and they answered with a smile. I wouldnt mind stay there again.

When we arrived at the hotel we noticed the hotel does not look like it does in the pics, however it is a lil dated but well worth the price, very great location, friendly staff, the hotel os clean, coffee shop next door and stairs are very steep but thats the same everywhere in amsterdam! Overall a very great stay in amsterdam! Would stay there again

Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful. the hotel itself was of an excellent standard. many other reviewers mention the steep stairs, but steep stairs are a fact of life in most buildings in amsterdam. we highly recommend this hotel. top marks!!!!!

Cons: When we first arrived we wanted to go straight away but were told thr full amount had been paid for and that it was non refundable. but we got used to the hotel after the second day. it's mainly men that stay in this hotel, and we were two girls who had to lumber our suitcases up some very, very narrow steps. but you do get used to them. the shower was in a poor state, and the toilet always had skid marks in them (shared toilet). the staff were ok, the decor of the hotel is very gay, my room
had fur for wallpaper!! when we separated the beds we found that the carpet was ripped and other stuff. it's ok if you are tough, if you are not and enjoy luxaries do not stay here. and try to ask for a room at the bottom near the back!!

Cons: The breakfast was rather poor for a 95 euro per night, you need climbing skills for the stairs, way too steep. the staff was ok. should be offered as a 100% gay hotel. the shower used to be the hall's closet and as you get out fo it you'll meet the guests coming in or out the hotel. i'm not tall and i almost had to sit sideways on the toilet, too small!!

Pros: It was a good location near the liedseplein and the facilities were satisfactory. the bedroom was comfortable with plenty of storage space.
Cons: It was a little inconvenient that there was nobody on reception from 10pm until 8am but at least you were given a key to get back in.

Hotel The Golden Bear, Amsterdam's most popular place to stay for gays and lesbians, but also straight friendly, in the very centre of the city. This non-smoking hotel is located in two historical buildings dating back to 1737.
In the street where the hotel is located and in the nearby Reguliersdwarsstraat there are several gay bars and clubs. The entertainment square, 'Leidseplein', is located around the corner and is surrounded by several entertainment venues like the city theatre 'Stadsschouwburg' and a casino. The central location of The Golden Bear Hotel Amsterdam is perfect to easily reach the numerous interesting museums and nice shops but also gay bars and saunas are just a short stroll away from the hotel. There is also a tram stop around the corner, which enables you to reach all the sights even quicker, although Amsterdam is easy to explore on foot.
Different room types are available at the hotel. Some of the rooms have a private bathroom and other rooms share a shower and toilet in the hallway.
