 "It's a clean place to stay and that's about it."
For the money this was a pretty good deal. Hostal Maria is located in downtown Madrid near the Sol station so you can walk to a lot of places. The room itself is very bare but has all the necessities. The staff aren't the friendliest, but they are around and able to help if needed. Wasn't my favorite stay of my trip, but worked great for my budget.

Pros: The hostal maria was great and affordable and fine. a little difficult to get to from the airport via the subway. 4 transfers and 45 minutes

Pros: Right in the heart of madrid, close to bars, restaurants, shops, sightseeing etc. airconditioning included.
Cons: Room and bathroom small but practical. somewhere to lay your head at night but not to spend a lot of time in.

Cons: Basic small room. on second floor but there is a small lift. close to "red light" district.

Very good and friendly hostal in the centre of the city (Gran Via, Plaza Callao) and two minutes walking to the Puerta del Sol area. Museums, shops, cinemas and theatres are also within easy reach.
