 "Good value for money in pricey LA"
The hotel is nicely situated close to Union Station at the rim of Chinatown and close to the picturesque Mexican arstisan market. Since there are not much cosy (affordable) spots in downtown LA this is a pretty good option. Hop on hop of bus tours to Hollywood do start in front of the station.

 "Service was lacking but the location is good"
I was unhappily checked in by this fillipino guy who was incredibly unfriendly and impatient when I arrived at the Metro Plaza hotel at 6pm.Hate unfriendly hotel staff. Don't they know that in a foreign land, they are more or less the most important people to a tourist?? :/I was hoping the morning shift staff are better, well, they were. They were cold and efficient. The lady manager was also always reprimanding her staff in front of hotel guests too. ?_?The whole hotel and my room had a weird stale smell throughout my stay. The bed was comfortable enough and I slept well. It was fuss free stay. Generally happy but just dont expect much help from the staff. Breakfast was juice, coffee, bagels, muffins, fruits. Adequate.

Great location for access to Union Stat & airport shuttle.Staff friendly & helpful. Breakfast plentiful. We were upgraded to a big room so was brilliant! Hotel & rooms very clean.

 "Goof location"
I had stayed at this hotel on another occasion and found it to be very convenient. Although an older hotel it was clean. It is 5 mins walk to Union Station so very handy for catching the metro and the LAX bus for $7. The complimentary breakfast was appreciated

Pros: Great location downtown la; continental breakfast in lobby was nice. least expensive hotel around.
Cons: I should have checked ahead of time about where i could park my uhaul truck. i moved my daughter down to la, and could not park it at the hotel. i ended up parking pretty far away, and it was a bit hard.

the parking at the hotel was crazy. my daughter parked underground (which cost $4), but you couldn't just go and get your car when you wanted. they double and triple parked cars; we came home later at night and it was closed!

Cons: Neighbors complained we were being noisy while we were in bed. had a knock at the door, i think it must have been someone else, but was disturbed from sleep.

Pros: We stayed there because it was walking distance to union station. the neighborhood is very urban with mexican and chinese food on the same block. the inside is surprisingly clean and pleasant.
Cons: The bed was a little too hard but ymmv.
