Old Waverley Hotel Edinburgh  

Probably could not find a better location for a short stay in Edinburgh. Immediate problem , like so many other hotels in Edinburgh, no car park. Better to come by train , car pretty much a liability under these circumstaces .Would not hesitate to go back again but 2 -3 nights long enough in what i would describe as a very average hotel

I've visited Edinburgh many times but never stayed overnight, and despite walking down Princes Street, I'd never noticed this hotel. Had it not been for this website I never would've known about it. And what a great find it is! You probably couldn't get a more centrally located hotel, only 1 minute's walk from Waverley Station - perfect for travellers with luggage.I had a single room on the 5th floor with a view over Princes Street. The room was perfectly adequate with a comfy bed, flatscreen TV, tea-making facilities, iron, ironing board and hair dryer. The bathroom was modern and spotlessly clean.I had breakfast in the Cranston's Restaurant in the hotel - very tasty. They have fruit segments and cereals, croissants and toast, as well as bacon, sausages, tomatoes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, mushrooms, black pudding and haggis. As I had a window seat, I had a view down Princes Street again.For someone who has been to Edinburgh on many occasions, it's amazing to have a hotel right on Princes Street and for such a reasonable price - they could easily charge a lot more just for the view. My only caveat is that to get from the street to reception you have to climb a flight of stairs, so it's not wheelchair friendly. There is a lift to the floors within the hotel, but there doesn't seem to be any wheelchair access from outside.If I ever have to stay in Edinburgh again, I will definitely be using this hotel. Perfect location, very reasonable price, good rooms, and friendly staff. What more could you want?
