Hotel Stars Bordeaux Gare  

This was a very cheap hotel, and as such obviously you wouldn't expect many luxuries. The rooms were quite small, but perfectly decent, clean, nice bed, en-suite bathroom. The area isn't brilliant, but it's close enough to brilliant areas. There is tram stop right outside, and I actually walked everywhere. So if you're after a cheap hotel, this really is a good choice. However, the service can be, well, erratic. I needed to have a letter sent to the hotel, so I asked one receptionist whether it's possible to receive. The answer was "oui, si vous me dit votre nom.". I thought the response was a bit funny, as if they didn't know who lives in their hotel, but anyway, I gave him my name. A few days later I asked another receptionist whether I had received a letter. I told her my name, and she said, oh yes, there was a letter for me, but she returned it to the sender, as she didn't know that I was expecting a letter. This is twofold unfortunate: a) it turned out the guy I spoke to first was not responsible for the mail, but didn't tell the person responsible for the mail that I was expecting a letter. b) but quite apart from that, when a guest in a hotel receives a letter, I presume it is natural to assume that that person expects that letter: you don't normally go around telling everyone the address of your hotel so they can send junk mail there, do you. But apparently the receptionist responsible for the mail thought I didn't need that letter. Well, I did. It was actually quite an important letter. And that I didn't receive it made some things rather more complicated for me than they had to be. The receptionist then suggested I go to the post office around the corner: I should ask them, they could tell me what happened to the letter and how I can get it back. Well, I thought that's a bit odd, I don't presume post offices keep letter that have been returned to the sender, but I thought in the absence of any other options, I might as well give it a go. Who knows. So I went to the post office. And obviously, the clerk told me they don't keep messages returned to the sender, but, well, return them to the sender. The whole episode was really rather moronic. I should add, though, that no other receptionist showed even remotely that level of incompetence. To the contrary. They were all very nice and helpful and the cleaners were nice too.

Pros: It was nice and quiet. my room was small but comfortable. the bed was comfortable. shower worked well and there were ample toiletries and towels. a good hotel for an over=night stop.
Cons: The room was hot. the room was a bit small for two people with luggage. luckily i was alone! from my booking online i was under the impression that breakfast was included. when i got to the hotel, i had to pay extra for breakfast.

Pros: Modern, clean & bright bedroom & shower room. nautical theme. lift to all floors. near railway station. suitable for business & leisure travellers.
