Great little place, quirky, clean, good location, excellent breakfast and frienly staff. I would definately stay here again. Make sure you hire a boat with www.boaty.nl its the best way to see Amsterdam. Crush coffee shop next to the Backstage is worth a visit also

Stayed in this great hotel for a few nights whilst experiencing the Amsterdam lifestyle. It's great for people whom want to get to some cool local bars, coffee shops, museums, and other attractions as it's a short distance walk away from the all. Overall, great hotel, great service, and great location.

Myself and 4 friends shared a 5 bed room for a hen do for 3 nights in June. the two double beds were actually 4 single beds pushed together which was actually better for us plus a single. the room was decorated really cool and the bedding and room and bathroom were all really fresh and clean. the en-suite bathroom was small and clean. a really good powerful shower and huge sink and mirror. there was also a toilet just outside in the corridor which was handy! although we read reviews about the bad steep stairs, they weren't a problem at all and added to the character of the building. the bar was really fantastic! also the hospitality. we were all offered a hot drink free of charge when waiting to for our taxi on the last morning. a great central location but also peaceful enough as not right in the heart of the bars but just round the corner from leidsplein square. a great stay!

A practical hotel due to its location and nice staff, laid back atmosphere. Very steep staircase and no elevator so make sure you are fit to climb them. Noicy surroundings so not for those who want peace and calm.

Pros: Rooms were creatively decorated making it fun to be in. location was perfect for getting to and from central. staff were quirky and hold fun conversations. slept well and comfy. all round great experience.
Cons: Perhaps going up and down the stairs but to be honest that was good because it kept our energy up. stairs was a god thing, keeping fit in the mind.

Pros: Friendliest staff ive ever seen in a hotel, very laid back and extreemly helpfull, you are well warned about the steep stairs which are actually easy to climb after a few shandy's :-)

Pros: The staff were very friendly and helful.
Cons: We got a twin room instead of a double room because we never stipulated that we wanted a double room, however, we didn't know that we needed to. i also did not know that we did not have our own shower and toilet.

Pros: It was close to several bars, restaurants and museums.
Cons: Didn't get any sleep at, due to the location of the room itself, which was right by the stairs (room 101)... people constantly making noise going up and down the stairs!

Pros: Hotel staff was wonderful! friendly and helpful. great breakfasts.
Cons: 5% city tax added to total bill (and 2% credit card charge) meant final bill was 65 euro higher than expected/listed.

Pros: The backstage hotel is in an excellent location close to the local bars and restaurants and the museum district. the hotel is excellent value for money and the staff are polite and extremely helpful. the rooms are of a great standard, very modern and the music theme gives it great character. it is advertised as having steep stairs, this is not a lie but you do get used to them once you've been up and down a few times. i would definitely stay here again, i loved it!!
Cons: I can't really find anything negative to say apart from the steep stairs would be hard for people with walking difficulties because there is no lift, however for me it adds to the character of the hotel.

Cons: エレベータがなく階段も非常に狭く急なので、女性がスーツケースをひとりで持ち上げるのはほぼ不可能。また足の悪い方なども厳しいと感じた。そして部屋の立てつけが全体的にいい加減^^; ただし清潔さは保たれているし、何気に置かれていたi-podプレーヤーが活躍した。
