The Royal Monceau's lobby makes a grand impression, with its marble columns, crystal chandeliers, and Italian frescoes, but the atmosphere is anything but stuffy. There are no dress codes, and both business travelers and vacationers are personally welcomed by hotel representatives upon arrival. Surrounding a mirrored, oval-shaped swimming pool and opening to a lush courtyard garden, Les Thermes fitness center and day spa resembles a sumptuous Roman bath. It offers exercise classes, fitness rooms, massages and body treatments, mineral baths, and a beauty salon. Light meals are served for breakfast and lunch in the adjacent restaurant, with views of the pool and garden. One of the best views of Paris is available from atop the Arc de Triomphe, 2 blocks from the hotel, at the traffic-thronged axis of the city's most famous intersection. Unlike the Eiffel Tower, there is no security cage to interfere with the panoramic view. The easiest entry is via the underground tunnel from the Champs-Elysées.
